Stoner Breakdown: Tax Cannabis 2010 Initiative
Reefer Madness: on the November ballot!!As a pot connoisseur I thought it would be very important to take a real look at the ballot measure up this November in California that would legalize the herbs on a state level for the people of Cali. So I smoked a big bowl of some mediocre Humboldt brick, and dug in. The Initiative would amend and add to various existing laws relating to Health, Crime and Commercial laws. These are my findings:

The Facts of this Initiative.
- Legal age to use pot: 21+
- A person may possess, process or transport no more than one ounce.
- 25 square feet to grow per private residence/land parcel.
- Opens up local governments to determine their own laws regarding business structures.
- Also allows for the transport of pot to and from growing and process facilities and businesses.
- Allows for the ‘appropriate’ taxation on any sales, transfer and all other imaginable taxes, including Federal…
You CAN NOT:
- Smoke it in an enclosed space with minors(18 and under or the prohibited 20 and under?)
- Sell what you grow without a proper business setup and permit.
- Operate a car, boat or airplane while under the influence.
- Use it in public spaces, special laws exist for schools and will remain in effect.
What the Initiative people say:
- 15 million Americans used marijuana ‘last month’
- Estimated $15 billion in illegal pot transactions in CA each year.
- CA wastes millions chasing these people around.
- CA will save crime fighting $$ AND bring in taxes.
What other people say:
- Would bring in taxes for state and local governments.
- Could increase state drug abuse program spending.
- Would significantly lower number of court cases.
Aside from somehow yielding less than an ounce from a 25 square-foot patch, which could potentially yield 100s of ounces, I think this thing makes tons of sense for all involved. It protects children, generates taxes, lets Americans who smoke the herb enjoy some actual FREEDOM. So vote for it if it doesn’t get stricken from the ballot. It seems as natural as a weed.
